Dr Stefanidis is presently Head of Pediatric Nephrology at "Mitera" Children's Hospital in Athens, Greece.
He completed his medical degree at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Suma Cum Laude). He was the valedictorian of his class.
He was trained in Pediatrics at the 1st Department of Pediatrics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. Then he became a fellow in Paediatric Nephrology at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. His PhD, which he received from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, was on the "Growth of children managed with chronic peritoneal dialysis" (Suma Cum Laude).
Dr Stefanidis worked for 35 years initially as a consultant and then as Head of the Department of Paediatric Nephrology at "P. and A. Kyriakou" Children's Hospital in Athens, Greece. He was president of the 1997 Meeting of the European Society for Paediatric Nephrology (ESPN), councillor of ESPN, national representative and chair of the Tertiary Care Group of the European Academy of Paediatrics.
He was also registry representative at the ESPN/ERA-EDTA Registry and board member of the dialysis working group of ESPN. Dr Stefanidis is a founding member of the South Eastern Pediatric Nephrology Working Group and he served as Head of the Scientific Committee in a number of Meetings of this group. He is presently editor at the journal “Pediatric Nephrology”.
He holds the title of Fellow of ESPN. He authored 163 publications in international journals. He has received 4085 citations (h-index 36 and i10-index 80).
